Own Your Frontier

The wider frontier

More ways to build a life of your own.

A home is one foundation for independence. The ability to earn, create and keep moving forward matters too. These are the paths we are exploring as Own Your Frontier grows.

Our first focus

Start with homeownership. Build from what works.

Our first program is designed around recoverable assistance for working first-time homebuyers. The areas below describe future possibilities. There are no Own Your Frontier applications, grants or loans available for these additional areas.

Being explored alongside housing

Protect what you have built

An essential repair or a short disruption in income can put a stable household under pressure. We are exploring how counseling, reserves and carefully bounded help could support a recovery plan.

The goal: households keep a stable home and regain their footing after a setback.

Explore USDA's rural home repair programs

Existing USDA programs have income, location and other requirements; repair grants also have age restrictions.

Priority for a future partner-led pilot

Turn a skill into a livelihood

A credential, work tools or a practical barrier to training can stand between someone and a stronger income. We are exploring support connected to apprenticeships, employers and a clear route into paid work.

The goal: completed training, sustained employment and stronger earnings after the costs of working.

Find registered apprenticeship opportunities

Apprenticeship.gov is an existing public resource. Own Your Frontier does not currently offer a training grant or placement service.

Exploring experienced partners

Build a business of your own

Equipment and working capital can help a small business get moving. So can dependable customers, sound pricing and someone to help with the books. A useful program would address both the money and the day-to-day work.

The goal: a viable business that supports its owner, with manageable obligations and durable customer demand.

Learn about SBA microloans through local intermediaries

SBA microloans are loans made through participating intermediaries with their own terms. We do not currently offer business financing.

Exploring support within future programs

Make opportunity reachable

Reliable transport, workable childcare and a move someone chooses can make a job or training opportunity possible. We would consider these supports as part of a specific employment or ownership plan.

The goal: people can attend training, keep a job and make the next step sustainable.

Find an American Job Center

Local services and support vary. These are independent public resources, not Own Your Frontier services.

Longer-term exploration

Create a future on the land

For some Americans, independence means a productive piece of land or a rural enterprise. Entry requires more than a purchase: experience, a viable operating plan and access to appropriate financing all matter.

The goal: productive ownership supported by specialist partners and realistic operating economics.

Explore USDA Farm Service Agency ownership loans

USDA programs have eligibility and repayment requirements. We do not currently offer land grants or farm loans.

An idea becomes a program when it is ready to serve.

Before opening any new program, we need a clearly defined need, an experienced delivery partner, committed funding, understandable eligibility and terms, and a way to measure the outcome. Public resources linked here have their own rules and are not endorsements or announced partnerships.
